Making diversity work
You have intentionally recruited for more diversity.
Now how are you going to make the mix work?
How can you even make it beneficial for your company and the individual employees?
It will require an intentional process and a systemic approach:
For example, you might need to get these diverse people involved in reviewing existing policies, write new ones and determine how to support their implementation.
You will also want to look at how your current systems and procedures can either limit or maximize the engagement and contribution of your diverse workforce.
You might want to identify organizational outcomes that allow you to assess how well diversity is valued in your company (for example in voluntary turnover, product quality or sales growth).
And there is the big chunk of transforming organisational culture: consistently hearing the right tone at the top, creating spaces where the feeling of belonging can grow and building leadership competency how to deal with dissent or resistance.
Improving diversity among employees is an important first step.
And then there is the rewarding journey to make it work!
